TechMOB is a community of Mobile area tech professionals who want to help train and develop our local sector, connect our tech community and recruit and attract tech talent to the Mobile, Alabama area. We love where we live and work and we know other people will, too!
As the focal point for technology in South Alabama and the central Gulf Coast, the Gulf Coast Technology Community (GCTC) goal is to help transform the area’s economy to take advantage of strengths in three areas: Healthcare IT, Communications, and IT services.
The Gulf Coast has a growing cluster of technology companies. With over 150 technology companies in Mobile, some 4,000 people are employed in IT occupations. Mobile, and the surrounding area, offers distinct advantages over more established IT hotbeds around the country, including lower cost of living, strong talent pool, high quality of life and outstanding health care.
Mobile is cultivating an entrepreneurial hub with amenties to support. Mobile contiues with its center city vibrant downtown development with a growing abundance of upscale restaurants, nightlife, and receational opportunities. The downtown St. Louis Street is a dedicated corridor of high-tech activity that encourges entrepreneurial activity and increases the Port City’s economic vitality by making Mobile a sought-after destination for start-ups.
Mobile and Alabama are tech friendly to recruiting new and expanding tech businesses. In 2014, the Alabama Legislature passed a Jobs Tax Credit focused on job creation and salaries, important to tech-based companies.
GCTC creates Scholarship Fund for local technology students
The Gulf Coast Technology Community has created the GCTC Scholarship Fund for local college students majoring in technology. Designed to help ensure a growing technology talent pool, the GCTC Scholarship Fund will foster the education of local technology students and keep that talent pool in Mobile and Baldwin Counties for years to come. The GCTC started the scholarship fund as part of its mission to grow a highly skilled technology workforce in the area. This scholarship fund will create a venue for local companies to meet potential future employees.
